OpenAI Launches Workspace Agents in ChatGPT for Automated Team Tasks

OpenAI Launches Workspace Agents in ChatGPT for Automated Team Tasks

OpenAI on Wednesday introduced workspace agents in ChatGPT, a new product for business, enterprise, education and teacher customers that lets teams create shared agents for long-running workflows and complex tasks, the company said in a post on its website.

The launch comes as companies look for AI tools that can do more than answer single prompts, with OpenAI saying the agents are designed to work across teams, tools and approvals while staying within organizational permissions and controls. OpenAI said the agents are an evolution of GPTs and are powered by Codex.

Shared agents for team workflows

OpenAI said workspace agents can handle tasks people already do at work, including preparing reports, writing code and responding to messages. The company said the agents run in the cloud, which allows them to keep working when a user is away.

The agents are designed to be shared inside an organization, according to OpenAI, so a team can build one agent and use it in ChatGPT or Slack. OpenAI said teams can then improve the agent over time.

OpenAI said the agents are intended for work that depends on shared context, handoffs and decisions across departments. The company said the agents can gather context from the right systems, follow team processes and ask for approval when needed.

OpenAI gave an example from its own sales team, saying it uses an agent to collect details from call notes and account research, qualify new leads and draft follow-up emails in a representative’s inbox. The company said that approach helps account teams spend less time assembling information and more time with customers.

Availability and next steps

Workspace agents are available in research preview in ChatGPT Business, Enterprise, Edu and Teachers plans, OpenAI said.

To get started, OpenAI said a team can describe a workflow it does often and ChatGPT will help turn it into an agent from start to finish.

OpenAI also said GPTs will remain available while teams test workspace agents with their workflows.
The company did not give a broader rollout date in the post.
